When Therapists Become Leaders

Therapists are trained to sit with people in pain. Very few are trained to lead the people they employ. Yet many eventually find themselves responsible for hiring, supervising, managing conflict, building systems, and sustaining an organization — all while protecting clinical values.

The shift from therapist to leader can feel disorienting.

Questions often emerge:
  • How do I lead therapists without becoming overly controlling or conflict-avoidant?

  • How do I hold standards while maintaining a relational culture?

  • How do I build structure without burning out?

These are not questions most leadership programs address. They are specific to the experience of leading a team of clinicians — and they require support from someone who has navigated them firsthand.

An IFS-Informed Approach

My consulting integrates the IFS concept of Self-leadership with practical skills needed to manage businesses and lead people. When we attune to our internal system while having perspective and clarity on the external systems at play, we can lead with more confidence and calm. This is what keeps me grounded and clear-headed, and it can do the same for you.
